Teaching Introductory Chemistry by Scott Milam

Picture
Scott Milam is a seasoned chemistry teacher in the US and has poured all of his experience and knowledge into this piece of work. The book is structured into different content areas in chemistry and, in each, provides wonderful insight into:
  • The messy history of chemistry
  • Explanation of key content
  • Addressing common misconceptions
  • Concrete strategies to integrate in the classroom
  • Cognitive science to support teaching and learning.
My thinking was challenged within the first few minutes of reading this book and I will likely integrate a lot of his ideas into the resources on this website (I will try to indicate where I have done so underneath the relevant slides).
This book is really worth a read regardless of your experience in the game!
